So I went to Busan for the weekend after finals, because what better way to escape the rainy weekend and the despair of finals than with fun in the sun? Noah and Windter had already arrived in Busan, so I agreed to tag along with Glen because most of my desire to go to Busan relied heavily on the weather forecast and whether or not I would be alone.
So I woke up at 6AM since Glen and I were meeting at 7:15AM, and the elevator had risen up to a higher floor, and when it came back down there was only this lonely mop set. Kind of unnerving.
Anyway, we hopped on a subway and then got off at Seryu (Dark Blue line 1) to catch a 82-1 bus to the bus station. Right after we swiped out, Glen spotted the 82-1 pulling up, so we were rather lucky.
We spent forever looking for 부산 on the time table.
Eventually we figured out that the Busan tickets were being sold on the 2nd floor.
It was 22600 won and since there weren't any more seats for any of the earlier buses, we had the 9:40 bus.
From the 2nd floor, we could spot E-Mart. By this time it was around 8:30 so we decided to venture over there.
Plum-flavored hard candy that staved off my hunger.
Before we left the station, I tried to get one of those creepy little dolls, but on my first try, I grabbed it and a bunny head, and both dropped before making it to the chute.
We went through some skeevy pathways (namely the bus parking and boarding lot) to reach the E-mart only to find that it was closed. We were both hungry and dispirited so we went to eat at Dunkin Donuts.
I got a iced bubble green tea latte, which I managed to spill around 1/4 on my right shoe. Glen got some disappointing donuts, and this was basically the low-point of our day.
Some odd signs in my ice cubes. I wonder what it's trying to tell me.
After cleaning up the mess of my stupidity, it was time to board the bus. The seats were assigned and Glen and I were nowhere near each other. However, Glen managed to switch seats with the guy sitting next to me.
After about an hour, the scenery changed from city industrial to hilly mountains!
There's a rest-stop in the 4:20 hour ride, so it was time to eat 50 cent chocolate and Paris Baguette goods.
Mountains are exciting to me.
Glen just sits there and falls asleep so quickly. He doesn't even move.
I'm the queen of unflattering angles.
Anyway, we met up with Noah, Windter, and Noah's fiancee Hyomin at the bus terminal. We had a car for the day, so we headed out to the most popular beach in Busan, Haeundae (해운대구).
It was beautiful. Weather was slightly overcast, but that was better than constant drizzle in Suwon.
Taking pictures of things that might look vaguely important.
Hyomin started following a pack of dogs.
Taking off shoes to enjoy the sand, which is pretty fine, but not the powder-fine of South Padre Island.
Enjoying the freezing cold waters of spring.
I kind of like looking at all these pictures sequentially.
Hyomin took some group pictures of us.
We started building a sandcastle with our feet.
It's beautiful.
After that, Noah wanted to race because he felt like winning.
Everyone limbering up.
We're off to a good start. They had to run to a tent and loop around it.
I caught Noah in the process of falling.
Here lies Noah, who never tasted victory.
Lots of dogs!
Hyomin has an affinity for dogs.
This guy was flying a kite while we were cleaning our feet.
Sand is really stubborn.
His kite came back.
And then he released it again. You can see the orange tent that the guys raced around.
Sometimes I wonder what I took a picture of, but maybe it's important so I'll just leave it here.
He had an interesting accent and an adorable dog.
One of the lab puppies tried to get at the water and fell down a step.
Heading back to the car, we went through a mini snack market.
Silkworm larvae. Slightly nutty, not my thing.
Glen got an extra corn dog and forced it upon me.
We stopped by the hostel Windter stayed in before spring term started because he left his keys there.
We got them successfully! Apparently Windter only really wanted the bottle opener attached to his keyring.
View from the hostel.
After this success, we went to Shinsegae Department Store, which has a lot of bakeries on the bottom floor. I had rolled up my pants legs for the beach, and my calves were admittedly too fat for them to come back down.
Got a red velvet manoffin because Glen spoke highly of them. Doesn't really beat Hey Cupcake!'s red velvet, but still good.
There was a bar that served different types of water.
Looking up at all the escalators in Shinsegae.
Glen and I wandered into an H&M while Noah and Hyomin (forgot where Windter was) went TOMs. The H&M was two-storied, and since the women's section was on the upper level, I walked up the stairs. As soon as I did I immediately felt my bladder distend. It was horrible and I ran into a kid in my haste to get to a restroom.
Crystal installments.
There was this sign on the floor and Glen wanted to pose with it.
I should stop taking candid photos because things like this happen. The door in the back seemed to be the emergency exit for a theater. Iron Man 3 was playing.
Heading out to eat at a seafood place.
We got situated in a room.
I have a gift for taking blurry photos from the back seat of a car.
Surprise fireworks!
The bridge is really beautiful.
Hyomin's dog! Suumin? I'm not sure how to spell it...
Fruit and cake!
Windter took the camera for this.
Yes.
Windter trying to take macro shots with my point-and-shoot.
And we ended it with ice cream and wafer bits and watching (Glen's favorite) Project Runway Korea (All-Stars).
